Go by foot length. Sorel uses one chart for its women’s styles and one for men’s, so measure your longer foot and find the row that contains your length.

Women’s half sizes run 5 through 11, then 12. Men’s half sizes run 7 through 13, then whole sizes 14 to 17. Kids’ sizes go from toddler (C) to youth (Y).

Width: most Sorel styles are made in one standard width. When a style comes in a wide width, it appears in our size picker.

Growing room (kids)

How much room? About a thumb’s width at the toe — roughly ½ inch (1 to 1.5 cm) between the longest toe and the end of the shoe. Toes should wiggle freely without the foot sliding forward.

Thumb test: with your child standing, press the tip of your thumb down at the front of the shoe. You should be able to press down without hitting a toe.

Between sizes or one foot bigger than the other? Choose the bigger size. Kids’ feet can grow quickly, so re-measure about every two months.

How to measure

Draw a straight line longer than your foot on a sheet of paper and stand on it, heel and longest toe centered on the line.
Mark the back of your heel and the tip of your longest toe, then measure between the marks.
Measure both feet and use the longer one. Measure in the afternoon, standing, when feet are largest.
For boots, measure while wearing the socks you plan to wear with them.
